Hananoki
ParticipantGood evening all,
Tonight, me and Hana had a go at a basic shibari rope technique that we both enjoyed. It’s only a basic hand restriction but allowed me to lead her and tie of the ends to restrict her movement. The knots didn’t have to be so tight but manages to work on giving sensation to the wrist.
I have attached a few images of what I managed to do 🙂
Regards
Hananoki

Thanks for sharing Hananoki, My Sir and I are also interested in Shibari. Your photos look great. My Sir has downloaded a few different books looking for simple ones. He is particularly interested in chest and crotch ties. We don’t think I’ll be able to manage hand/wrist ties.

ParticipantHi Mr C’s Aussie Girl,
It’s really new to us and ive said I would like to work up to body and crotch ropes bit the wrist is okay for Hana and she really enjoyed the tie. I like that they aren’t overly tight as starter ones that would intimidate a starter.
We are looking forward to trying a few new knots and see how it goes.

ParticipantNice work Hananoki, you’re on such an exciting journey.
While you’re taking the first few steps you might consider switching to a braided (and really inexpensive) cotton rope. It is stretchy, so if you make the wraps and frictions too tight you’ll not do any harm, and it grips to each other. Your pretty rope looks a bit shiny, which I find usually means slippy!
I’m looking forward to seeing what you create ☺

ParticipantHi barefoot, we have used it a few times and although it is quite glossy, it doesn’t seem to slip and also leaves a nice imprint on the skin after without being too tight but will have a look at the cotton ones too. They were our first ropes and bought as trainers more to learn the technique of the knots so will definitely look at the other options.

ParticipantI like the structure of the duchy website, but he irritates me. So I’ve found the best way is to find alternates on YouTube.
I like to watch the video then play on half (or quarter) speed so I can tie along the first time. Once it’s in my fingers I’m good to go.
Another approach is using photo tutorials. Skorpion rope create these with such clarity. They have more freedom than books seem to as they aren’t limited by the number of pictures allowed (I guess)
Here is my self-tied version of this tutorial: https://www.skorpionrope.com/skorpion-v-harness the results were much better on my friend this weekend, but I can’t share that yet.

ParticipantMy Sir has enjoyed creating these wrist cuffs tonight. I can see he is going to be very interested in Shibari especially as he is talented with leather carving and plaiting. The joy on his face, as an artistic man and musician was priceless. Thank you Hananoki for spurring him on.

ParticipantIt looks like you’ve been having Great times with the ropes!
Something I found is, with YouTube videos, you can watch them on half or quarter speed, and tie along with them while you’re trying to get the ties to work in your fingers. Sometimes the tutors whizz through their tutorials and it helps to just slow them down.

ParticipantHi barefoot,
This isn’t something I had thought about but very useful thank you. I had the same issue the first few times but on the second try without the video, only had to refer back when I made a mistake. Hoping the column ties are easy enough to grasp without having to refer back too many times.

ParticipantMy Sir said the double column ties are simple, but he has to check the tie-off again. He used the Rory link you put up, Noki, to create a double column
cuff. Thank you very much.

ParticipantMe and Hana had a go at a double column tie recently and I think I need a little more practice but we really enjoyed this one. Much more simpler but not quite as aesthetically pleasing.

Mister C
ParticipantVery utilitarian. Does the job. I saw on Rory’s YouTube that to make it neater you tie from the top. The coils are facing upwards.

ParticipantHi barefoot, Do you have any recommendations on where to buy rope from please (we are in the UK) Something for beginners. We bought the purple at a really cheap price, and it had been really good to establish an interest. I have done a little browsing but I really don’t know what I’m looking at.

ParticipantYou can find cotton on amazon: here is a starting point. And is along the lines of where I started.
Is run by my friend Angel, she has a good selection of jute, from good value to expensive. But her passion for rope is the reason she set up the business, and is always happy to help. She also has some great picture tutorials which you may enjoy even if you would rather wait to start on jute. 😉 (I wouldn’t recommend the knothead nylon yet. Its gorgeous but oh so slippery!
I’ll have a think on others. My old favourite (and preferred hemp seller) has finished trading. 😒

ParticipantIt’s about finding people you can appreciate. I can’t watch videos by the duchy as he annoys the bejeezus out of me. But I have enjoyed the way they lay out the website and take you through knowledge chains. Then I just nip off and find my own tutorials on YouTube.
With YouTube I like to watch it through and then pop it on half speed for tying along to. That helped a lot, especially while I was trying to make my fingers do what they were told.
Skorpion rope like to make their ties accessible to all. They do picture tutorials on their website which are laid out in a wonderful way and takes you through the steps. Angel makes it super easy to follow. Here’s one I tried at the weekend:

ParticipantSecond attempt at the HK using double rope …. nicer look than the single. I tried a single rope ladder arm tie. This will need work to fit in with the HK theme.
CoVid helped inspire me. Free time while locked down used very productively.

ParticipantCoVid Lockdown is great for Shibari Play. I finally had a chance to play with the HISHI KARADA dress and a decorative Ladder tie down AG’s arm. First effort was with single rope of 10m, the second was a double rope tie.(better finish ) and then I added the arm tie. AG stood patiently for me while I practiced on a REAL HUMAN. What a gift from my submissive.
